Ryu-oh's Twelve Kingdoms Review

hey there 11 ^^
just droppin by to say hi :D

Quote by Ryu-ohHm. Well I've used "Twelve Kingdoms" to get multiple people into anime (including my parents of all people :D), so I would place that within my list despite it being fairly comparitively "unknown". It also blows away anything else in the "normal middle/high school student is brought to fantasy world by fate/destiny/accident and becomes important warrior/ruler/priestess" genre :D
After that, I usually go with some Miyazaki to showcase the epic story, something Gonzo to show off where CG animation/colouring is going.
But for specifics... I'd actually say Mononoke Hime for Studio Ghibli. (I like Nausicaa, but I've read the manga, so I'm invariably disappointed with Kushana in the movie version)

Hi, Thanks for writing in my thread and thanks so much more for mentining the lesser known 12 Kingdoms! Also one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately I have only seen the first 20 plus eps (praying for the rest!!).

See you around!

Long time no see... where are you????????????

+edit+
Weeee, thankiessss for the comments and all XD
Hehe, yeah, I like your comments XD always lub those who bother to look and comment hehehe :) anyway, actually me also quite busy cos i am having exam now >____> i hope i get over it soon :) one more week to go XD anyway, ttyl ^^

Quote by Ryu-ohHm, maybe I should change my title to "curmudgeon" or "joy-kill" XP
Anyway, I liked the wall, but I've a few comments to add. Feel free to use whatever you find useful, and ignore the rest as random ramblings.
First the good, because one should always start there :D Colours? Awesome. Vibrant. You could probably have made a wall without the character or grass, and with those colours, you'd have drawn me in to look at it :D The character is well extracted (nobody ever gets enough credit for that), I don't see any bad jaggies or missed spots. I do see some overpainting, but I'll get to that in a sec. I've more to acclaim, first. Anyway, the character also matches your colours well, and I like both the feel and the techniques you used to get those cool glittery pathway things and clouds. All good.
However... (you knew this was coming, ne?)... a couple things. First... there are a few places (the hair, the edge of the character's skirt) where it looks like you've airbrushed a little over the character with those vibrant colours I was gushing over. I don't know if it was in any way intentional, but it seems a little out of place, or maybe rushed. I'd rather see clean lines, except where it is immediately apparent that this is not the intended effect... it's kinda hard to say on this one (especially on the parts overlaying the dress), so it looks to me like it should be cleaned up.
Secondly, and more importantly in my opinion, we've a perspective problem. The character looks like she is standing fairly upright, and with the lines of her shoulders and such, we get the impression that we are on-level at best with her, more likely slightly above. So the thing really hurting this otherwise excellent wall, imo, is the lack of horizon line. We've the grass, cattails and low plants which can obscure the landscape for the foreground, but the only real way you can get away without having a horizon in a more realistic land/sky-scape is to have our perspective looking up at the character, not down. Unfortunately I can't think of an easy fix for this one, since fixing it would require a fairly comprehensive background redraw
Anyway, overall, I do like the wall, despite my gripes. Yep, I'm a sucker for bright colours, and you've used them well here. I just hope that you keep some of this in mind, and improve on your next (hopefully again vibrant) wall :D

Woah!!!!!!!!!! O.O<-----surprised
Weee....this is alot Ryu-oh....XD XD
Thanks for your comments on my wallpaper "Skies of Spring"
Thanks alot for your support on your comments and I will improve on my next wall *hopefully lol* :D
But that really helped me...and yea I dun like tha way tha grass looks....>.<
But oh well....THE problem was that I was rushing through it, I was in a hurry to finish...and that's why it didn't come out to nice....>.<'
Oh well...Lol!
Thankies for your support and critics! *hugz* :d
i appreciate it alot so "thank you" lol.
See ya then and bye bye's!
Take care!

Quote by Ryu-ohHeh, thanx for the comment on my Junni Kokki review. I was beginning to think that nobody was reading it. Anyways, pleased to meetchas and all that.

you're welcome! :D
i really love that show and is surprised that no one commented on your excellent review. ;)
take care and see you around then~

Quote by Ryu-ohMm... the perspective doesnt quite feel right IMO. I really like
the concept, the field indeed looks pretty cool, and the
characters fit well... but the way the horizon cuts off right at the
church doesn't feel right to me. I think it doesn't feel like a hill to
me since the horizon line is too flat? I'd suggest creating a little
bit of a swell to simulate a terrain not quite so flat. And really
faded grey jaggy hills/mountains far in the background would go a long
way to creating some depth to the terrain (maybe cut the opacity of
such to a lower value to simulate the blurriness of that much
distance?)
Not that I know much about CG, so feel free to ignore anything that
I've said

Hey, thanks for the comment there XD but I was not planning to make a hill you see, it was just a field, a widespread one at that ;) the horizon doesnt really cut off at the church, it is somewhere behind it (not too far away) cos the church is not really at the tip of the grasses, erm, was trying to create the impression that it was as far as we can see from here >.< Erm, maybe you were right about creating mountain, was debating with myself whether to create it or not cos it might destroy the whole feel of the background :) nonethless, thanks for the comment you gave, will try my best to do better next time :D

+edit+
well, I do not mind your critiques at all ... criticism is always good to improve oneself :) and yeah, maybe I need to rethink the whole plain thingy... hmmmm.... but I dont think I'll redo the whole plain >.< anyway, thanks for the time taken to actually criticise my wall, not many people do that :) mind me adding you ? Can help me comment on my upcoming submissions and help me improve :)

Thanks for the clarification, I rechecked the submission policies and deleted the offending entries. No thank you for the wording. Please remember that everyone is new at some point and each forum has different rules on submissions. Occasionally an error can be made.

You don't get it. You cannot post wallpapers youdidn't do, no matter where you put them. If you didn't do a wallpaper don't even think about submitting it ...
Taken from the submission policy

What can I submit as wallpaper?
» You can submit finished wallpapers that you made yourself using graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop. This means you cannot submit wallpapers that you found elsewhere, or modify existing wallpapers to submit it as yours. You may use stock images such as those found on Minitokyo, for example anime characters, to enhance the wallpaper. Submitting wallpapers from others is known as ripping and will be immediately removed from Minitokyo with all consequences that follow.

You cannot simply put a wallpaper as a scan. that's ripping anyway

Quite impressive arguments you've made there. :)
You've challenged my theory really well, and there's one point that you made that my theory didn't cover. Bravo. ^_^'

And same here, it's nice to have an in-depth discussion with someone like you too.

Take care, and probably I'll challenge you again (if I ever come up with another serious debate). :D :D :D

welcome ^^.. read my post in your thread ^^
